DavidI honestly don't really know the full origination of this song. Tom played a recording of it for me once...we were engaged in one of our near-marathon phone calls and, in the midst of other topics, "original recordings" came up. Tom was always prone to defer music attention away from himself, so he first mentioned "Christmas Bells", a song I created when I taught Sunday School in Burlington...Tom and I recorded that song using his 4-track recorder (and Reverb and Delay and Chorus, of course). I remember pressing Tom about his own music, and he mentioned one he recorded called "Savior". I asked him to play the recording...even over the phone it was amazing...pretty much like most of Tom's songs. He had recorded "Savior" to cassette, and it was in the array of musical equipment that Debbi gave to me after Tom died. After finally getting the tape to work correctly, I found there were a couple of renditions of this song on the cassette...renditions that included his intros followed by comments he shared when he had to restart the recording. One of the versions of the song doesn't include acoustic guitar in the recording. One does. That's a favorite...how the guitar, his strumming adds incredible texture to the song. In full transparency, while "He Takes Her Home" resides in a revered place in my heart, there is no question that "Savior" is for me the musical expression that best captures Tom's soul...without doubt.
